Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Montana Science Center. Our small staff and diverse community benefit immensely from partnering with the people who live, work, recreate, and retire here. From those who love science to those who are just learning, MSC can use your help. Our volunteers have allowed visitors of all ages to gain an understanding of science concepts by facilitating hands-on activities and demonstrations. Volunteers have provided expertise in the garden, with special events and activities, exhibit installations, professional STEM content, community outreach, maintenance and more.
All of our volunteers are an important part of the Montana Science Center team and contribute to our mission. Volunteering is a fun way to share your passion for inspirational science learning. Each volunteer position is unique, whether behind the scenes or on the museum floor interacting with visitors.
We welcome all age ranges to participate in our volunteer program. Contact Brittany at bmehrens@montanasciencecenter.org if you have specific questions.
Internships are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year. Internships have been offered in Education, Programming, Marketing & Special Events, Science Education and more. Internships are project-based and offered to current college and graduate students. Interning at Montana Science Center is an exciting way to expand your professional skills, network with professionals, receive school credit and gain real-world experience. Contact Brittany at bmehrens@montanasciencecenter.org for application details and internship position descriptions.
Once we receive your application, we will determine if your skills and availability match our current volunteer position needs. Qualified applicants will be invited to either an individual or group volunteer interview. Individuals invited to join the volunteer team will also complete a background check. Once complete, volunteers are then invited to orientation and position training.
The length and time commitment of each volunteer position varies. In general, we ask that volunteers commit to at least 2-monthly regularly scheduled volunteer shifts for 6 months. Some exceptions include positions which are seasonal, temporary or offered on particular dates and times.
Qualifications for each volunteer position vary. Orientation and training are provided to help volunteers learn the necessary volunteer position skills.
Most of our adult and teen volunteer positions are short term. Special event volunteer opportunities may be offered and will be posted on our website.
If given enough notice, we can typically accommodate volunteer groups of 10 individuals or less. Group volunteer opportunities have included gardening, cleaning exhibit spaces, inventorying our educational materials, painting, helping with Family Science Days and more!
We welcome individuals or groups who would enjoy lending their professional expertise to Montana Science Center. Past skill-based volunteers have offered technology troubleshooting, 3d printing, exhibit development, exhibit maintenance, professional photography and more!
