How are proteins like origami? Nature relies on tiny machines, called proteins, for life. These machines are built in a special way that allows them to work properly, whether it’s carrying food for our cells or protecting us from bugs. We can think about how these proteins work using origami; depending on how you fold it, a piece of paper can become anything—an animal, insects, flowers, or even a virus.
